Event will bring together American businesses, farmers, and entrepreneurs to explore how they can tap into the China consumer opportunity

May 26, 2017

MESA, AZ – The National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development will partner with Alibaba for its Gateway ’17 conference in Detroit. Taking place June 20-21 at the Cobo Center, Gateway ’17 is Alibaba’s inaugural conference designed to help U.S. businesses, farmers, and entrepreneurs explore growth opportunities and reach millions of Chinese consumers. The conference is expected to attract more than 1,000 businesses across the U.S., and will include keynote speeches from leading entrepreneurs, including Jack Ma, founder and executive chairman of Alibaba Group, as well as category breakout sessions, business solutions sessions, and marketplace networking opportunities. Through the partnership, the National Center hopes to connect Indian Country businesses to the Chinese market.

“The growing Chinese market offers tremendous opportunities for Indian Country,” said Chris James, President and CEO of the National Center. “The National Center is very excited to partner and participate in Alibaba’s Gateway ’17 conference, which we believe will help lay the groundwork for Native businesses to reach a new and growing market. We encourage other Native businesses and entrepreneurs to join us in Detroit for what we believe will be a fantastic event.”

With incomes rising in China, the Chinese middle class continues to grow as does consumer demand for access to high-quality products from the United States. Alibaba, which is the world’s largest retailer, helps U.S. businesses by connecting them to Chinese consumers and empowering them to grow their businesses by accessing the China opportunity.

“Alibaba is delighted to have the support of NCAIED in creating opportunity for native businesses to sell to China’s growing middle class,” Jennifer Kuperman, Vice President of International Corporate Affairs at Alibaba.
