The JMB Consulting Group, LLC, an Indian Economic Enterprise and woman-owned business, recently earned its certification as a HUBZone business by the United States Small Business Administration (SBA). The JMB Consulting Group is a client of the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development

American Indian Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC). The PTAC and JMB Consulting Group were first connected with each other through the National Center’s Native Edge Institute DC, which took place in December 2019 at the headquarters of the American Petroleum Institute in Washington, DC.

“The certification shows that as a business owner, I am not only looking to build a successful business, but also improve economic development efforts within the HUBZone to bridge the economic gap.” said Juliana M. Berde, CISSP, Owner of JMB Consulting.

This group of consultants in The JMB Consulting Group, LLC offer security-driven solutions utilizing industry best practices, compliance frameworks, and federal mandates for customer-tailored outcomes for cloud, mobile, networks, web-based applications and information systems.

To achieve HUBZone certification, The JMB Consulting Group had to meet a range of criteria that included its principal office being located in a HUBZone area located in Washington D.C., and 35% of its employees residing in a HUBZone area. Federal agencies strive to maintain 3% of all contracts to be set aside for certified HUBZone businesses. Additionally, large federal contractors seek certified HUBZone businesses for subcontracts.

“It’s especially good that I am a client at a PTAC experienced in supporting American Indian entrepreneurs and advocating for the improvement of American Indian economic development status,” said Ms. Berde. She explained that PTAC Procurement Specialist Cris Pierce reaches out consistently to check on her business and see if she can be of any assistance. Ms. Pierce was a speaker at NEI DC.

“I learned about the diversity and inclusion offices that various federal agencies have to give opportunities for American Indians and other minority groups,” at NEI DC, according to Ms. Berde.

The success of The JMB Consulting Group is just one of many stories to come out of the National Center’s Native Edge Institutes program. For more information about these events and an upcoming schedule – which are all now available virtually and for free – please visit www.ncaied.org.
