Ware River Consulting LLC (WRC) located in Ware Neck, Virginia, was certified on April 28, 2021, as an Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business (EDWOSB) by the U.S. Small Business Administration for the Women-Owned Small Business Federal Contracting Program.

Founder and chief executive officer (CEO), Debra Goodier, describes her firm as an emerging small company. “Obtaining our EDWOSB certification is a monumental win for Ware River Consulting” she said. “We have seen our networking increase, particularly with mid to large-sized companies.”

WRC, a professional services firm founded in 2018, is focused on strategic planning, program management, compliance, and human capital. “Integrating these areas when working with our clients allow us to offer value-added consulting and direct support,” she said.

The firm is well-founded on Ms. Goodier’s 30 years of business experience in engineering, federal contracting, healthcare, insurance, information technology, logistics, manufacturing, oil and gas, and security.

“WRC has matured in the past year considerably and despite COVID-19 we have added to our capabilities,” said Ms. Goodier. She describes the pandemic initially as downright frightening. “We pivoted and added to our capabilities.” WRC sells personal protection equipment, medical and hospital supplies, janitorial supplies, and office supplies. “I’m grateful for the teaming arrangements that we have with our suppliers.” In 2020, WRC grew because of these efforts.

The firm was awarded prime contracts in April 2020 by the University of Wisconsin in support of its Small Business Development Centers and in May 2021 by the City of Norfolk in Virginia.

WRC is a client of the Native American Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) hosted by the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development in Mesa, Arizona. Debra Goodier, an enrolled member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Tribe, learned about the PTAC in December 2020 at a Native Edge Institute (NEI) event in Washington, DC. She’s been able to participate in other NEI events virtually since then.

“The one takeaway,” said Ms. Goodier, “Entrepreneurs who are new to government contracting or thinking about entering the marketplace have an abundance of resources available to them.”
