Spotlight on a Native-Owned Business: Arctic IT
When tribes and native-owned businesses were making the transition to remote work, Arctic IT was the firm many called on to make the transition as smoothly as possible. Based out of Anchorage, Alaska, Arctic IT is a member of the Doyon, Limited family of companies, an Alaska Native Corporation. The firm specializes in creating technology and cloud solutions for its clients that help organizations operate in today’s online world. From its founding in 2003 until now, Arctic IT has gone from being a local service provider in Anchorage to offering its services to organizations nationwide.
Arctic IT has been a tremendous partner with the National Center for American Enterprise Development for our Native Edge Institutes and other online training and support. We are incredibly grateful for their work.
We sat down with Mary Gasperlin, Director of Marketing at Arctic IT, to learn more about the firm. We hope you enjoy the interview!
1. Tell us about yourself and your business?
My name is Mary Gasperlin and I am the Director of Marketing at Arctic IT. Arctic IT has been serving Indian Country since our inception in 2003. We create technology solutions that allow tribes to better serve their members. Tribal Platforms, a suite of applications, help tribes provide these important areas of tribal services: Enrollment, Family Wellness, Tribal Court, Distribution Payments, and Community Portal.
2. How has your business been affected by COVID-19?
In the last year and a half, we’ve been recognized for helping tribes harness the power of technology through migrating assets to the cloud. We’re the experts at mobilizing a remote workforce, and we helped others do this in a very short time.
3. What advice would you give to small business owners about starting and growing a business?
Work hard and build relationships with organizations, like The National Center, who can guide you through building your business.
