The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in coordination with the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) will host the 2017 National Tribal Energy Summit: Tribal Energy Sovereignty – Strengthening Strategic Partnerships, May 2-3, at the JW Marriott in Washington, D.C.

The Summit will bring tribal leaders together with senior administration officials and federal agencies, state governments, private industry, utilities and academia – to exchange ideas and explore new and cost-effective solutions to our combined energy development and infrastructure challenges. New this year, the Summit will include match-making sessions with developers,  lenders, investors and other experts. Now is the time to build partnerships to better serve our country’s economy – and future. 

The Summit will showcase opportunities and highlight challenges in the areas of:

  • Impact Investment and Access to Capital

  • Trust Reform and the Regulatory Environment

  • Resources for Fossil and Renewable Energy Projects

  • Collaboration with DOE National Laboratory Family

  • Effective Strategies to Build Tribal Energy Capacity

  • Partnerships for Project Development

The Summit will include meetings of the DOE-supported Tribal  Working Groups:

  • Indian Country Energy and Infrastructure Working Group (ICEIWG)

  • Fossil Energy Tribal Working Group (FETWG)

  • State and Tribal Government Working Group (STGWG

  • Nuclear Energy Tribal Working Group (NETWG)

  • NCSL’s National Caucus of Native American State Legislators (NCNASL) will also conduct business.

Additional Summit highlights:

  • Reception on May 2 at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian

  • Lightning round matchmaking sessions with investors, lenders and developers

  • Organized roundtables, including special energy finance and fossil energy sessions
