To our friends and supporters-

As you likely know, on Friday, March 27, the U.S. House of Representatives passed and President Trump signed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Th

e legislation is a $2.2-trillion relief package designed to stave off the worst impacts of the COVID-19 for businesses, individuals, and public health professionals. It provides billions in direct support and loans for businesses, one-time payments for many individuals, and expanded Unemployment Insurance benefits for those who have lost their jobs because of the pandemic.

I’m sure you have many questions about the new CARES Act and how it can benefit Indian Country, as well as your own well-being and perhaps even your own business. While there are still many questions about how the relief will be implemented and how the financial support will make it into the hands of the tribes, businesses, and people who need it most, we are here to provide you information and answer as many questions as possible.

In this link there are some helpful resources and links for you to access, as well as the specific sections directly related to Indian Country. You can read my statement on the legislation by clicking here; the final product was the result of considerable efforts by Indian Country organizations that teamed together to ensure that tribes had access to the funds appropriated in the legislation.

We also want to let you know that we will be hosting a special web-based Native Edge Institute to help you get your questions answered on what the new CARES Act means for you, with a focus on the small business provisions. That Native Edge Institute will take place on Friday, April 3rd at 10:30 a.m. EDT.  We will be joined by our partners GovContractPros, Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP, Native American Bank, and Blue Stone Strategies. We will provide links and an agenda in the coming days, so please make sure to check www.ncaied.org or follow us on TwitterFacebookLinkedIn, or Instagram for additional details.

Most importantly, we continue to encourage you to stay safe and healthy, and heed the warnings and recommendations of public health officials until the crisis passes.

Sincerely,

Chris James
