MESA, AZ- The National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development (The National Center) is partnering with United National Indian Tribal Youth, Inc. (UNITY) to conduct a business plan competition at the upcoming National UNITY Conference. The Business Plan Competition is open to teams of individuals who attend the 2019 National UNITY Conference and is divided into two divisions: Team Youth High School-Age (14-17) and Team College-Age (18-24). Each team must be comprised of at least two people within the same age division. The winners will be announced during the National UNITY Conference July 4-8, 2019 in Orlando, FL. To learn more, go to National Center Youth Business Plan.

“It’s our passion at The National Center to help develop and encourage future business leaders and entrepreneurs in Indian Country,” said Chris James, President and CEO of The National Center. “We are very excited to be able to offer a business plan competition for our youth. Starting your own business isn’t easy; there are many components involved, and it takes grit to see it through to completion. That’s why we have an all-star panel of judges and want those who participate in the competition to take it seriously – to show their commitment to seeing their business plan through to the end. I can’t wait to see our future business leaders’ innovative plans and ideas.”

This competition is intended to simulate the real-world process of entrepreneurs seeking start-up funds. The judges will decide which business venture they would most likely fund. Other factors in the judging process include the value created by the new product or service, attractiveness of the market opportunity, the competitive advantage of the proposed venture, operational and technology viability, the capability of the management team, the clarity and persuasiveness of the plan, and the capital requirements and financial forecast. Ultimately, the winning teams will be ones in which the judges would most likely invest their money.

“UNITY is grateful to the National Center for its commitment to empower young entrepreneurs,” said Mary Kim Titla, Executive Director of UNITY. “We are happy to partner with the National Center for this competition, which allows our Native youth to not only dream big but to put their vision down on paper and potentially win a cash prize. Good luck to all!”

Confirmed Judges Include:

Derrick Watchman, Chairman of the Board of the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development David Beaver, CEO of Titan Facility Services, LLC April Tinhorn, Owner of Tinhorn Consulting, LLC
