The National Center is showing no signs of slowing down as the calendar turns to summer. On June 20, we hosted a Native Edge Institute in South Portland, Maine, featuring the inspiring words of Monica Simeon of Sister Sky. She and her company are true success stories – and stories worth sharing. We were honored she joined us to share her wisdom with attendees who came as far away as Pennsylvania. Make sure you check out the recap of NEI Maine from our very own Yvette Fielder.

We’re also gearing up for one of our best events of the year – our Native American 40 under 40 awards gala. This year we’re staying close to home at the Shertaon Grand at Wild Horse Pass in Phoenix, but winners will come from across Indian Country. I am impressed with how our 40 under 40 program has grown, including the tight-knit community this impressive group of over 400 winners has established and is maintaining for themselves. I can’t wait to see the 2019 crop of winners and the unique resumes and skills they bring to the table. To learn more about the gala and how you can purchase your ticket or nominate someone for this prestigious honor, please click here.

At the gala we’ll also announce the winners of our Business scholarships. Over the years, and with the help of sponsors such as Lockheed Martin and Ongweoweh Corporation, we’ve helped dozens of smart and motivated students continue their business studies. Know a student who deserves the financial support? Make sure he or she fills out the application for the scholarship!

Speaking of current students, this summer we’re pleased to have two interns join us at the National Center’s headquarters in Mesa, Arizona, Treyson Fullmer and Christian Ulibatti. Treyson and Christian are getting hands-on experience in economic development in Indian Country – experience they will use after graduation. Learn more about Treyson and Christian in the spotlight on our summer interns.

Thank you again for your support of the National Center. I look forward to talking with you again soon.

Sincerely,

Chris James President and CEO

The National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development
