Chris James, President and CEO of the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development, was recently named to the Advisory Board of First Peoples Worldwide. Based in Boulder, Colorado, First Peoples Worldwide works from a foundation of indigenous values to achieve a sustainable future for all. Its work facilitates collaboration between indigenous peoples and investors to address the unique social and environmental impacts of development in Indigenous communities, while preparing future leaders to meet the pressing social responsibility challenges facing today’s businesses.

“It’s an honor to be a part of First Peoples Worldwide,” said James. “From working with companies to encourage investment while respecting indigenous rights to incorporating the perspective of women and youth in economic development, First Peoples Worldwide is an important voice for our communities, both in the United States and around the world. I look forward to working with First Peoples Worldwide’s talented team to secure a sustainable future for all.”

“Chris has given invaluable support and incomparable expertise to First Peoples Worldwide over the years. We greatly look forward to building on this through his capacity as advisor,” said Carla Fredericks, Director of First Peoples Worldwide. “As the largest national Indian-specific business organization in the U.S., the NCAIED’s work to develop Indian Country and support American Indian leadership is critical to building a better, more sustainable future for Indigenous communities. We are proud to share in these efforts as we build projects for 2020 and beyond.”

In April, James was a featured expert in First Peoples Worldwide’s leadership training workshop, which examined how investors, shareholders, financial institutions and other stakeholders can partner with Indigenous Peoples to better align their investment portfolios with a commitment to international human rights norms.

First Peoples Worldwide is a partnership between Faculty at the University of Colorado Law School and the Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility at Leeds School of Business and is housed within the Center for Native American and Indigenous Studies.
