Stephine Poston, president and CEO of Poston & Associates LLC and a Business First Women of Influence alumna, has been named Native Woman Business Owner of the Year by the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development.
Poston will receive the recognition during the group’s National Reservation Economic Summit in Las Vegas, Nevada, next week. National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development, or National RES, bills itself as the largest economic development gathering in Indian Country, bringing together over 4,000 Native American leaders, businesses and business owners, subject-matter experts, government officials and others, according to a release.
In 2002, Poston founded Poston & Associates LLC, growing it from a one-person project in her home at the Pueblo of Sandia to a full-service communications company. The communications firm specializes in projects with tribes and tribal organizations. Her client list includes the New Mexico Indian Affairs Department, National Indian Gaming Association and the Native American Rights Fund.
Poston previously worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Arizona and New Mexico as a public affairs officer and was a public relations analyst for her tribe, the Pueblo of Sandia. Poston is the co-author of the recently-released “Indigenous Women Entrepreneurs in New Mexico: Surpassing Barriers and Stereotypes.”
“Stephine Poston has a strong track record of working for and on behalf of Native American businesses, and is a very deserving recipient of the Native Woman Business Owner of the Year Award,” said Chris James, the National Center’s president and CEO, in a statement. “She sets an example for other business leaders – and particularly women – to follow. We are very pleased to be able to honor her with this award.”
Albuquerque Business First published its latest American Indian-Owned Businesses List this week. AMERIND Risk was No. 1 with $49.5 million in 2016 New Mexico revenue.
